Detailed description of Hawks Eye Golf Club
Hawk's Eye Golf Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Bellaire, Michigan.
Hawk's Eye Golf Club first opened for play in 2004. The course was designed by John Robinson.
The course has been voted "4th Best in the State of Michigan" by the readers of Michigan Golf Magazine. Hawk's Eye Golf Club is the centerpiece of Hawk's Eye Golf Community that also has a second 18 hole championship, The Chief. Hawk's Eye Golf Club is the tougher and more dramatic of the two courses. The course is routed through land with good elevation changes making for some great tee shots, and views of the fairways and greens. Fantastic conditioning from tee to green with 78 bunkers on the course, and nine holes with water hazards. The par-3, #11 is one of the most challenging holes on the course with a 165 yard all carry tee shot over a lake with the green sloping down to the lake, and double-tiered green. Three of the par threes play over water, the fourth one is a big elevation change from tee to green. The fairways are tree lined and rolling, with generous sized landing areas. The greens are average size with good undulations.

Layout of course was good and the condition of the fairways were good too, but that is where the positives end. The condition of the greens was mediocre. While the time of year may had something to do with the lack of availability of a stocked pro shop and limited offerings in the food/bar facilities. Given this is supposed to be one of the best in the state, it fell well short of my expectations

This is the First course of the five (5) Shanty Creek Resort we will be playing this weekend for our Golf Mecca Weekend getaway. Looking back after playing the five (5) tracks, I would have to say that this one is truly the toughest in landing areas and reading greens. Withthe six (6) tees you can pick from Blues 7,011yds / 75.4 / 148 down to the Reds at 4,855yds / 69.4 / 133 on this wooded rolling Par 36/36 layout. Conditions were perfect from lazer flat tee boxes,through the meandering mowed fairways, power fluffed traps, up to the mostly elevated greens that never gave you a real good look. If you play from the Blues/Tips you'll be looking at 150-200yd forced carries, but with the Whites (6,341yds) 120-170yds and some easier looks. Almost every green seem to be uphill so picking the correct approch shot had me pulling an extra club on almost every shot. The Front 9 although longer yardage and more water holes (6) played eaiser than the Back 9 because of narrower landing areas with fairway runoffs if you strayed too close to the edges. Reading these greens as to where to land and putt, seem to cause trouble for everyone today as they were rolling 9-10 all day. The Back 9 #12 is the Hcp2 hole at 448-365yd Par 4 with one narrow fairway at 40yds wide with landing at 200-160yds in, your widest spot. The #14 sweeping left Par 4 at 378-337yds is their Hcp 1 and that elevated green needs two (2) extra clubs. The #17 Par 5 at 607-577yds has the smart play staying inside the 135yd in as the fairway feeds downhill into the pond/swamp on the rightside, over the hill in front of the green. Really enjoyed the challenge today on this great layout and shooting 40/42 w/37putts and looking forward to Cedar Creek in the morning.
